Yoon Chung Han presents Dreaming Babies, an AI-generated installation that reimagines the genome as a site for imagination and mythology rather than pathology. Each chromosome, often associated with a genetic disorder or congenital condition, is re-envisioned through a named baby character —an alter ego and imagined being imbued not with deficit, but with a poetic, abstract superpower. By naming and animating what is often silenced or hidden in the shadows in some societies, the work subverts the stigma surrounding disability, difference, and genetic variation. The installation offers an alternative mythology—one where anomaly becomes alter ego, and so-called “abnormality” becomes a source of creative power, multiplicity, and beauty.

About Yoon Chung Han

Yoon Chung Han is an interactive media artist, award-winning interaction designer, and educator. Over the past ten years, she has created a wide range of interactive 2D/3D audiovisual art installations, data visualization/sonification, and multi-channel video installations that share complex information in visually compelling forms, bridging art, design, and technology. Her works are presented in international exhibitions and conferences, such as ACM SIGGRAPH Art Gallery, Japan Media Arts Festival, London Science Museum, ZKM, NIME, ISEA, ACM Multimedia, ACM SIGCHI, and IEEE Vis. She served as 2023 San José Creative Ambassador and Art Gallery Chair for ACM SIGGRAPH 2023. She earned BFA in Graphic Design at Seoul National University, MFA from Design | Media Arts at UCLA, and holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Technology at UC Santa Barbara, and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at San Jose State University.

Yoon Chung Han 的《做夢嬰兒》是人工智能裝置作品，重新把基因組（genome）構想為想像和神話的場域，而非病理學的範疇。每條染色體（chromosome）普遍都令人聯想起某種基因問題或先天疾病，在此卻被重新命名為一個嬰兒角色——即是另一個自我、一個想像中的存在，充滿的不是缺陷，而是一種詩意和抽象的超能力。本作透過命名和擬人化的手段，突顯某些社會當中閉口不談、藏匿於暗角的事物，顛覆與傷殘、差異和基因變異相關的污名及定見。本裝置作品提供另一個版本的神話——「異常」在裡面成為「另一個自我」，而所謂的「不正常」則成為創意、多重性和美感之源。

Yoon Chung Han 是互動媒體藝術家、得獎互動設計師和教育家。過去十年，她創作出一系列平面／立體的互動視聽藝術裝置作品、視覺／聽覺化的數據資料以及多頻錄像裝置，把複雜的資訊化成引人入勝的影像，融合藝術、設計和科技。其作品曾於多個國際展覽及會議展出，亦被學術期刊引用，包括 ACM SIGGRAPH Art Gallery、日本媒體藝術節、倫敦科學博物館、德國卡爾斯魯厄藝術與媒體中心、國際新音樂表達介面研討會、國際電子藝術研討會、ACM多媒體國際研討會、ACM人機交互國際會議、IEEE Vis 會議，以及 Leonardo Journal。她畢業於韓國首爾大學平面及互動設計系，師從 Suzung Kim 教授，分別獲得首爾大學和加州大學洛杉磯分校（師從 Casey Reas教授）的設計／媒體藝術碩士學位。Yoon 是加州大學聖芭芭拉分校的媒體藝術及科技博士，現為聖荷西州立大學平面設計系助理教授。
