Non Alien Box
Non Alien Box is a mobile public art project that reclaims decommissioned newspaper boxes across San Francisco to share absurd, often invisible stories of immigrants navigating the U.S. job market under restrictive visa conditions. Channeling the spirit of alter egos, Non-Alien Box creates space for marginalized voices to speak back, reimagine agency, and transform everyday urban infrastructure into tools of resistance and visibility.
About Non Alien Box
Drawing from lived experience, the project exposes labor inequities shaped by visa restrictions – low wages, prolonged internships, and narrow employment paths – and uses humor and the design of street ad flyers to spark public reflection. The project is initiated collaboratively by Xinling, Yunfei, and Grace, three international students who want to build a platform to share the stories of marginalized communities, focusing on the power and resilience of immigrants. Through their work, Non Alien Box aims to amplify the voices from those who don’t usually speak first, and highlight the strength found in their experiences.
