Festival Design
This year's festival design was conceptualized by Yangyifan Dong and Kaming Lee. The design draws inspiration from the traditional WuXing iconography. Motifs of Fire, Water, Wood, Metal, and Earth, and corresponding shapes are used as frames to showcase the historical texture of the five streets of SF Chinatown and also serve as graphic frames to highlight the artwork and artists on social channels.
The approach hopes to uncover the forces rooted in the elements that shape Chinatown's social and cultural fabric, honoring its historical past and contemporary vitality.
Using the natural color tone from the five elements, combined with their corresponding Eight Trigram (八卦) symbols as the typographical guides, the poster series consists of 5 posers representing each of the elements.
