About
Edge on the Square (Edge) establishes Rooting Between Time, a new youth movement building and educational program for underserved youth groups in Chinatown San Francisco. Guided by the vision to build an unprecedented cultural platform for social transformation, Rooting Between Time aims to transform lives by providing a fun, safe, and welcoming space to empower the next generation of leaders, creatives and visionaries through the impact of art.
Rooting Between Time launched this June 2023 with Chinatown youth cohort from Community Youth Center (CYC) and API interdisciplinary artists Xu Cheng and Andrew Landay. Rooting Between Time is made possible with the generous support from Foundation for Quality Housing Opportunities, Inc., San Francisco Foundation and SF City Government.
The 6-week summer session of artist-led workshops have taught youth the skills to translate personal stories and oral histories via cutting-edge computer-aided animation/AI technology. Through these immersive experiences, they have gained exposure to innovative technology and expanded their understanding of digital media creation.
